Cortland Weather Outlook: Saturday, July 17

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Saturday, July 17, 2021:

A complex set up to the weather today will make for another round of active, potentially hazardous conditions.

A frontal boundary lifted north through the region last night. A few showers from this front may linger this morning, but the trend should be for drier, sunnier skies through the morning.

Then, this afternoon, low pressure will track along the front, dragging a cold front into the region with it.

One of the biggest questions is how this front interacts with a warm, humid air mass. Showers and thunderstorms will at least be in the vicinity, and it could end up being a very stormy afternoon.

In a worst-case scenario, multiple rounds of strong to severe storms will move through during the mid and late afternoon and early evening hours.

Damaging winds and flash flooding will be the primary threats, but a tornado threat may evolve late in the afternoon as well. Be weather aware this afternoon and take all warnings seriously.

Temperatures should make it into the low if not mid 80s this afternoon with dewpoints above 70 degrees.

Showers and storms will continue into the night. While the severe threat will diminish, flash flooding will remain a concern. The rain will gradually pull away towards dawn.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Sunday: Clouds and possibly a few showers early. Then, increasing sun. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Monday: Partly cloudy. Maybe a pop-up afternoon shower or storm. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Tuesday: Sun early, giving way to some afternoon thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday: A few early showers. Then, increasing sun. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
