Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, July 22

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, July 22, 2021:

High pressure will have a firm grip on our weather today, keeping conditions quiet and a bit cool.

The high will still be off to our west, placing us on the cooler, eastern side. Northwest winds will blow at 5-10 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

This will keep the cool air from yesterday in place with highs once again just reaching into the low 70s. Dewpoints will also remain low in the 50s.

The northwest winds will also bring in a new batch of wildfire smoke, making for a return to hazy skies. The sun will filter through the smoke and some other thin clouds high in the atmosphere. A few fair weather clouds will also be possible.

It will remain partly cloudy tonight as another front moves through. This front will not cause any precipitation outside of a widely scattered shower towards dawn Friday.

The front will help clear away the smoke, so air quality will improve overnight.

Nighttime temperatures will drop back into the mid 50s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: Sun, clouds, and a few scattered showers. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.

Saturday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the low 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Monday: Sun and clouds. Perhaps a few afternoon showers. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.
