Cortland Weather Outlook: Monday, August 23

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Monday, August 23, 2021:

Our area will see the fringe impacts of Tropical Storm Henri as the storm sits over Eastern New York before heading back out over the Atlantic.

Steady rain from Henri should remain to our east this morning, though a few occasional showers may pass through. As Henri begins to track back to the east this afternoon, skies will see an increase in sunshine.

This will help trigger a few more showers and brief thunderstorms this afternoon. A few localized downpours will be possible, but they will be brief with little to no flooding concerns.

Some blustery northwest winds will set up with speeds around or just over 10 mph. Top gusts will be near or just over 25 mph. The wind will diminish late in the day and tonight.

With the lack of steady rain and brightening afternoon skies, highs should top out around 80 degrees this afternoon. Little change in the dewpoint is expected, with another day of muggy near-70 readings.

Showers will diminish this evening and skies will turn clear, allowing temperatures to fall back to the mid 60s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Tuesday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 80s.

Thursday: A few scattered showers and storms. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 80s.

Friday: Maybe a morning shower. Then, increasing sun. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs near 80.
