A slew of local fire departments managed to put out a fire at a single-family home on 6035 Cold Brook Road in the town of Homer Friday morning.

Preble Fire Department was first on the scene, and contained a portion of the fire, Homer assistant fire chief Joe Riley said. Riley added that the Homer Fire Department dispatched to the scene at 9:04 a.m. to assist Preble.

Riley noted that the cause of the fire was an electrical issue with an exhaust fan in the basement. The fire went into the living room on the main floor -- and some of it reached outside of the front area -- but firefighters extinguished the fire before it went elsewhere.

The fire caused significant smoke damage throughout the house, Riley said, but half of the home was saved. Riley added the house as a whole “is still salvageable.”

No injuries were reported. Also on scene were the Cortlandville, Spafford, Tully, Truxton and McGraw Fire Departments -- along with TLC Ambulance.

Firefighters departed from the scene at around noon, Riley said.
