Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, September 5

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, September 5, 2021:

A disturbance traveling along the jet stream is pushing a warm front through the area this morning and will drag a cold front through this afternoon.

Scattered showers will continue to be possible into the mid morning hours. Thereafter, skies will be mostly cloudy but also mostly dry through the early afternoon.

Rain chances will come up again during the mid to perhaps late afternoon as the cold front approaches. Scattered showers and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder will be possible.

The rain will move out for the most part before sunset, though a stray shower in the early evening cannot be totally ruled out. Skies will gradually turn partly cloudy through the overnight.

South winds will blow at or just above 10 mph between the warm and cold fronts during the morning and early afternoon. Following the cold front, winds will become more westerly and drop to around 5 mph.

High temperatures today will reach the low 70s during the midday hours. Temperatures will then spend most of the afternoon in the mid and upper 60s.

A quick drop into the upper 50s will take place as the sun sets, but overnight temperatures will not fall much further, ending up in the mid 50s.
