Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, September 9

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, September 9, 2021:

Low pressure brought a cold front through the region yesterday but will also keep our weather unsettled today.

The morning hours will be quiet with areas of fog burning off. Some sun will shine before clouds increase later in the morning.

Some sun will still poke out between clouds in the afternoon, but skies will be cloudier. A small disturbance rotating around the backside of the low pressure will also move into the area.

Scattered showers will develop as this disturbance passes through. Individual showers will be small and brief but may contain a couple minutes of heavy rain or even a few small hailstones.

The chance for scattered showers will continue into the evening and overnight as cool air over the warm waters of Lake Ontario gets a little early season lake effect going.

Winds will be light from the southwest and west through the morning with speeds under 5 mph. The wind will turn to the northwest for the afternoon and increase to around 5 mph.

Temperatures will warm through the morning and likely reach their high point during the midday to early afternoon. Highs will be near or just under 70 degrees.

Tonight, temperatures will make a quick dive into the mid 50s and then remain there through the night.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: Cloudy with a few more showers until some late clearing. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Saturday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows near 50. Afternoon highs near 70.

Sunday: Partly cloudy. Maybe a shower. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
