Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, September 12, 2021:

There will be several chances for precipitation today as a front settles into the region.

Skies will be more cloudy than not through the morning and afternoon hours. At first, just a few scattered showers will dot the region, mainly from the late morning into the mid afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, the rain chances will increase with the possibility for a couple of thunderstorms. Any storms that develop during this time should be small and isolated.

As we head into the evening, the chances for rain will increase again as one or more clusters of thunderstorms race through the region. Not only will this rain be more widespread, but frequent lightning, heavy rain, and damaging wind gusts will be possible.

The best chance for severe storms will be roughly between 8 PM and Midnight.

Winds will star the day breezy from the southwest with speeds of 10 mph and gusts to 25 mph. As the front moves overhead, the wind will be nearly calm or lightly from the north.

Temperatures will peak during the midday or early afternoon in the upper 70s. If a little extra sun shines, it could briefly reach 80 degrees. The afternoon will see a drop through the 70s with 60s taking over for the evening. Eventually, temperatures will drop to the mid 50s overnight.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Perhaps some showers and storms from time to time. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms, possibly strong. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 80s.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and maybe a rumble of thunder. Morning lows near 60. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.
