Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, September 15

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, September 15, 2021:

A slow moving cold front will cross the area from northwest to southeast this afternoon.

Out ahead of the front, some breaks of sunshine will be possible this morning. For the most part, though, it will be rather cloudy. A few stray showers will be possible, but many areas will not see rain yet.

That will change this afternoon as the front creeps closer. By the early afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will develop overhead. Multiple rounds of rain are possible, though the thunderstorms will be most likely early on.

There is a small chance for a couple robust thunderstorms with frequent lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds. A little small hail is not out of the question, either.

By the evening, the rain showers will end, and skies will turn partly cloudy. Areas of fog are likely and could be dense at times.

Winds will be from the southwest this morning at 5-10 mph. A turn to the northwest will take place during the early afternoon and speeds will gradually diminish by the late afternoon.

Temperatures will reach the mid and upper 70s during the midday hours. The exact temperature will depend on how much sun breaks through. Once the rain sets in, temperatures will fall to the upper 60s.

Tonight, temperatures will continue to retreat and should end up in the 50s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Thursday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Friday: Sunshine early, then afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Saturday: Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Sunday: Morning clouds and perhaps a shower. Increasing afternoon sun. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
