Hollenbeck’s Cider Mill is set to open for its 89th season this Saturday.

Located on 1265 State Route 392 in the town of Virgil, Hollenbeck’s is returning to in-person service. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the autumn season staple went with a drive-through setup last season.

Matt Hollenbeck, owner of Hollenbeck’s since 2016, said the goal this season is to operate “as they have traditionally” in the past. COVID-19 safety protocols will be enforced, Hollenbeck added, including masks.

“The focus of this season is re-establishing the tradition (before the pandemic) for the community,” Hollenbeck said.

From cider pressing to peeling and slicing apples, to watching the staff make donuts and pies, the experience at Hollenbeck’s is endless, Hollenbeck said.

“This is a multi-generational family tradition for our customers,” he said. “When you hand a little kid a cup of cider and (the child) leaps up into grandma’s arms and you hear (them) say ‘we used to bring your parents here when they were little,’ that’s amazing.”

Hollenbeck noted the reactions to the kids being handed a sample of cider is “funny and very pure.”

“Seeing the wonder in a kid's eyes, that’s the reason I’m here doing this,” he said. “It’s a huge motivation and reward, and something I’m really looking forward to seeing again.”

Hollenbeck’s is currently hiring. For more information, go to the Hollenbeck’s Cider Mill Website.
