Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, September 23

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, September 23, 2021:

A strong cold front will plow through the region today with heavy rain and strong winds.

The wind has continued to pick up intensity over the last several days and will peak this morning ahead of the front. Southeast winds will blow at 15-20 mph with gusts locally exceeding 50 mph, especially over higher elevations.

Temperatures will not have much time to rise this morning, nor sunshine to help them along. Highs should reach the low to mid 70s during the late morning or early afternoon.

Rain will arrive by midday and will continue steadily for several hours. Localized downpours are expected, and a few claps of thunder will be possible.

Once the rain begins, the wind will quickly die down to a light breeze from the west or southwest. Temperatures will also drop, taking just an hour or so to get all the way down to around 60.

The rain will probably not come to an end until around sunset tonight with most areas seeing one to two inches of rainfall.

Skies will clear tonight, though areas of fog will be possible. Temperatures will fall through the 50s and into the upper 40s by Friday morning.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:
