Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 24th & 25th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s and Saturday’s events:

September 24th

Varsity Football: Homer vs. ITC

The Homer Trojans defeated ITC (Institute of Technology, Syracuse) with a score of 51-20 in order to improve to a 3-0 record. 

Homer’s touchdowns were scored by Damani Durham (3 rushing touchdowns), David Morse (2 rushing touchdowns), Sam Sorenson (1 receiving touchdown), and Andrew Lynch Jr (1 rushing touchdown). 

Homer quarterback Jake Calabro threw for 119 yards and 1 touchdown. David Morse rushed for a total of 161 yards and Tommy Mahunik recorded 75 yards on 3 receptions for the Trojans. 

Up next, the Trojans will travel to play South Jefferson on Friday (October 1st) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Cooperstown

The Cincinnatus varsity girls soccer team beat Cooperstown with the minimal score of 1-0 on Friday. 

The only goal of the game was scored by Kyla Sustad in the second half. 

Cincinnatus goalkeeper Gabriela Taylor made 3 saves in the game, while Cooperstown’s goalie Samantha Vezza made 17 saves. 

Cincinnatus’ next game was against McGraw, for their annual rivalry game played at SUNY Cortland. The game was played on Saturday (September 25th). See below for a recap on that game. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Homer vs. Manlius Pebble Hill

The Homer Trojans are now 2-6 overall after losing to Manlius Pebble Hill on Friday with a score of 0-4. 

Homer goalkeeper Evan Butts made 7 saves in the game. 

Manlius Pebble Hill’s goals were scored by Chance Mugabe (2 goals), Eric Ma (1 goal), and ​​Alex Fung (1 goal). 

Homer’s next game is against Phoenix on the road at 6pm on Tuesday (September 28th). 

Varsity Boys Golf: Cortland vs. ESM (Orange & Blue)

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated ESM’s (East Syracuse Minoa) blue and orange teams on Friday. Cortland’s overall result was 197, ESM Blue’s result was 223, and ESM Orange’s result was 268. (Reminder: Lowest score in golf wins).

Varsity Field Hockey: Homer vs. Weedsport

The Homer Lady Trojans lost 2-3 to Weedsport on Friday. 

Homer’s goals were scored by Morgan Brown (1 goal & 1 assist), Carley Calabro (1 goal), and Sara Cargen (1 assist). 

Weedsport’s offense was led by Christina Jackson (2 goals), Trinity Davis (1 goal), and Gabriella Jeffers (2 assists).  

Homer goalie Emily Daniels recorded a total of 18 saves in the game. 

September 25th

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. McGraw

The Cincinnatus Lions played against the McGraw Eagles on Saturday for their annual rivalry game at SUNY Cortland. The Lions ended up beating the Eagles 5-1. 

Cincinnatus now holds an undefeated record of 8-0, while McGraw falls to 4-6. 

Cincinnatus’ offense was led by Jordan Larrabee (2 goals & 2 assists), Cason Stafford (2 goals & 2 assists), Scott Schuyler (1 goal), and Dominick Landers (1 assist). 

McGgraw’s only goal of the game was scored by Nathan Stiles. 

Up next, Cincinnatus will play at home against Stockbridge Valley on Tuesday (September 28th) at 4:30pm; while McGraw hosts Madison at 4:30pm on Tuesday (September 28th). 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. McGraw

The Cincinnatus varsity girls soccer team defeated McGraw with a score of 6-0 in their annual rivalry game at SUNY Cortland.

Cincinnatus is now still undefeated with a 9-0 record, while McGraw falls to a 2-5-2 record. 

Cincinnatus’ goals were scored and assisted by Jarisa Temple (3 goals & 1 assist), Kyla Sustad (2 goals), Cassia Schuyler (1 goal), Mandi Waltz (2 assists), and Ava Larrabee (1 assist).

Up next, Cincinnatus will hit the road, as they play against Stockbridge Valley on Tuesday (September 28th) at 4:30pm; while McGraw plays Madison on the road at 4:30pm on Tuesday (September 28th).
