Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 8th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Olympians defeated Moravia with a score of 6-0 in order to win their 16th division title in the last 17 seasons. 

The Olympians were led by Braeden Morrison (1 goal & 2 assists), Jacob Byron (2 goals), Kaiden Cornell (1 goal), Sam Castellot (1 goal), Bryce Hartman (1 goal & 1 assist), and Tristan Byron (1 assist). 

With Marathon taking control of most of the game, Moravia didn’t have many chances to score; leaving goalkeepers Julian Spizzirri and Conor Holland record 1 save each in the game. 

The Olympians have one more regular season game that will be played at home against Dryden on Tuesday (October 12th) at 4:30pm.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Cicero-North Syracuse

The Homer Lady Trojans lost a tough outing against an undefeated Cicero-North Syracuse team  on Friday with a score of 0-3. 

Homer goalkeepers Catherine Apker and Alex Kellaway combined for a total of 16 saves. Apker had 12 saves and Kellaway made 4 saves. 

Cicero-North Syracuse’s goals were scored by Briana Dorrance (1 goal), Ellysia Germain (1 goal), and Ashley Evans (1 goal). 

Homer’s next game is against Skaneateles on the road at 6:30pm on Tuesday (October 12th). 

Varsity Football: Cortland vs. Marcellus

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a difficult game against Marcellus with a score of 0-35, bringing them down to an overall record of 0-5. 

Marcellus’ quarterback Patrick Lauer threw 4 touchdown passes (3 to Ryder Donahue & 1 to John Walsh), while Jonas Kaczor rushed for one touchdown. 

All five of Eliot Austin’s extra point kicks were good. 

Cortland’s next game will be against Homer, as both Cortland County teams battle it out at their annual Home-Cort Jug game on Friday (October 15th) at Homer High School.
