Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 9th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cortland vs. Homer

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated the Homer Trojans with a score of 5-0 on Saturday. This game brings Cortland to a 6-7 overall record, while Homer falls to 2-10. 

Cortland’s defense maintained their composure, and Scott Hourigan made 5 saves to get the shutout. 

Homer goalkeepers’ Brayden Fox and Zander Johnson combined for a total of 11 saves in the game. Fox had 6 saves and Johnson made 5 saves. 

Cortland’s offense was led by Dennis Topchiy (2 goals), Max Gambitta (2 goals), Nick Yonta (3 assists), Caden Albright (1 goal), Derek Myers (1 assist), and David Kelchner (1 assist). 

Up next, the Purple Tigers will host Fulton on Tuesday (October 12th) at 7pm; while Homer hosts Phoenix on Tuesday (October 12th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Norwich

The Cincinnatus Lions improved to a 12-0 overall record after defeating Norwich at home with a score of 12-0. 

The Lions were led by Cason Stafford (2 goals & 7 assists), Tyler Liddle (2 goals), Jordan Larrabee (2 goals), Dominick Landers (1 goal & 2 assists), Scott Schuyler (1 goal & 1 assist), Kooper Vosburg (1 goal), Jack Stafford (1 goal), Somanik Scutt (1 goal), Collin Holtmart (1 goal), John Schuyler (1 assist). 

The Lions are now hosting Stockbridge Valley on today (Monday, October 11th). The game started at 11am. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cortland vs. Syracuse

The Cortland Lady Tigers defeated Syracuse after a close game on Saturday with the minimum score of 1-0. 

The only goal of the game was scored by Karamia Montalvo (assisted by Soleil Gutchess) in the first half of the game to give Cortland the win.

Up next, the Tigers will travel to play against Fulton on Tuesday (October 12th) at 7pm.
