Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, October 17

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, October 17, 2021:

A chilly day is ahead behind yesterday’s cold front, complete with some lake effect rain showers.

Lake effect is far to the north early this morning and will remain out of the picture through the morning hours. Morning sun will mix with increasing clouds.

Winds will shift from the west to the northwest this afternoon, sending a spray of on and off showers enhanced by Lake Ontario into the region. Individual showers should not last long, but most areas will see several batches of rain.

Wind speeds will be around 10 mph through the day with gusts as high as 25 mph.

With the clouds, showers, and winds, temperatures will be much cooler than they have been recently. In fact, it will be the coolest day yet this fall with highs only getting a degree or two above 50 degrees.

Scattered showers will continue into the evening and overnight hours. Temperatures will fall into the mid and then low 40s, which is incredibly still a touch above the climatological average overnight temperatures for mid-October.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Monday: Rain showers likely. Some sun possible late. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows near 40. Afternoon highs near 60.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Thursday: Increasing clouds with rain late. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.
