The Cortland Purple Tigers came out victorious with a score of 1-0 against Oswego in the first round of the Section III Class A Sectional Tournament.

According to Cortland Head Coach Luke Schweider, this is Cortland’s first Sectional appearance in three years.

The only goal of the game was scored in the first half by Derek Myers off an assist from Nick Yonta to give Cortland the win.

“It was a good run (from Nick Yonta) on the corner kick,” said Coach Schweider. “Derek Myers was able to get through with the header, on his birthday too. Myers is feeling pretty good right now.”

Oswego was able to get a couple of chances to tie the game in the last couple of minutes, but the Tigers’ backline stood strong.

Cortland goalkeeper Scott Hourigan made a total of 10 saves in the game.

“He’s been our rock the entire season,” said Coach Schweider about Hourigan. “As a player who is one of the better goalkeepers in the league, he keeps us in games. He goes through the basics of each save and comes through with it.”
