Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 19th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Homer vs. Living World Academy

The Homer Lady Trojans defeated Living World Academy in three sets during senior night. This was also Homer Volleyball Head Coach Jeremy Cook’s 100th win with the Trojans. 

During the game five Homer seniors (Kayla Miller, Keira Miller, Kayleigh Moss, Kloey Roos, and Mya Updyke) were celebrated.

Homer was led by Kloey Roos (5 aces, 9 kills & 17 assists), Mya Updyke (15 assists), Mallory Douglass (11 digs), Lilly Sorenson (9 kills & 7 blocks), and Kayla Miller (3 kills, 2 blocks & 10 digs). 

Up next, the Lady Trojans will take on Mexico on the road at 4:30pm on Thursday (October 21st). 

Varsity Girls Soccer (Sectionals): McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The #11 seeded McGraw Lady Eagles lost a close game to DeRuyter (6th seed) with a score of 0-1 in the first round of the Section III Class D Sectional Tournament. 

The only goal of the game was scored by Madelyn Pforter (assisted by Peytin Burrows) to give DeRuyter the win. 

McGraw goalkeeper Heather Magee made 3 saves in the game, while Kelsey Brown made 4 saves for DeRuyter at goal.

The Lady Eagles ended their season with an overall record of 4-7-3. 

Varsity Girls Soccer (Sectionals): Homer vs. Holland Patent

The Homer Lady Trojans ended their season last night, losing 1-2 against Holland Patent in the first round of the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament. 

Homer’s only goal of the game was scored by Gracie Patriarco (assisted by Hannah Slade). 

The Trojans ended their season with a 6-10-1 record. 

Varsity Boys Soccer (Sectionals): Cortland vs. Oswego

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Oswego in the first round of the Section III Class A Sectional Tournament with a score of 1-0. 

The Tigers will now be moving onto the Tournament's Quarter-Final round, as they take on #1 seed East Syracuse Minoa on the road this Friday (October 22nd). The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
