Marathon Olympians Fall to Cherry Valley-Springfield in Sectional Semifinals

The #1 seeded Marathon Olympians lost 1-4 against #4 seeded Cherry Valley-Springfield (CVS) in the Section IV Class D Semifinals of the sectional tournament on Thursday (October 28th) at Oneonta. 

CVS took control of the first half, after ending it with a 2-0 lead. 

About seven minutes into the second half, Marathon sophomore Jacob Byron scored to get the Olympians back in the game (1-2). 

CVS responded immediately and scored another goal about three minutes later. 

The Olympians kept pressuring CVS throughout the game with 14 shots and 8 corner kicks in the half, but CVS goalkeeper Gavin Valenta came up big with several saves.

CVS then finished the game by scoring another goal, leaving Marathon no room for a comeback. 

Marathon was led by Julian Spizzirri (2 saves) and Jacob Byron (1 goal). 

CVS was led by Will Henrich (2 goals & 1 assist),Alan Parker (1 goal), Oskar Webster (1 goal), and Gavin Valenta (6 saves).

The Olympians ended their season with a 10-4-3 record, and said farewell to 4 seniors (Bryce Howe, Tim Potter, Ethan Morrison & Braeden Morrison).  

CVS will play in the sectional finals vs. South Kortright (2nd seed) on Saturday (October 30th) at 11:30am in the at the Wright Soccer Complex in Oneonta.
