SUNY Cortland Red Dragons Win Cortaca Jug, They End The Regular Season Undefeated

The SUNY Cortland Red Dragons reclaimed the Cortaca Jug after defeating the Ithaca Bombers with a score of 28-27. With this win, the Red Dragons ended their regular season with a 10-0 record and will proudly be bringing the Cortaca Jug to the Bronx in 2022 when they take on Ithaca at Yankee stadium

It was a close game, with Cortland taking a 14-6 lead to end the half. Ithaca came back in the third quarter by scoring three straight touchdowns to take a 14-27 lead. 

The Red Dragons scored before the end of the third quarter, which reduced Ithaca’s lead to 21-27. 

With over 8 minutes remaining in the game, Cortland scored a touchdown to take a 28-27 point lead.

The Bombers would then get on field goal range with less than 2-minutes left in the game. However, Ithaca’s Nicholas Bahamonde, who made two field goals earlier in the game, was blocked by Cortland senior Travis Alvarez to give Cortland the win.

Cortland’s scorers included Brees Segala (3 touchdown passes), Derek Cruz (2 receiving touchdowns), JJ Lapp (1 receiving touchdown), Trevor Ash (1 rushing touchdown), and Nick Guglielmo kick (4 extra point kicks). 

The Red Dragons’ offense was led by Jaden Alfanostjohn (173 rushing yards & 12 receiving yards), Derek Cruz (96 receiving yards), and Brees Segala (175 throwing yards & 69 rushing yards). 

Ithaca was led by Jalen Hines (1 rushing touchdown), A.J. Wingfield (1 touchdown pass & 1 rushing touchdown), Dan Mason (1 receiving touchdown), and Nicholas Bahamonde (2 field goals & 3 extra point kicks).
