The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office had two traffic stop reports after midnight on Nov. 13 that involved separate driving while intoxicated (DWI) charges on Route 13 in the town of Cortlandville.

One stop involved Michael A. Bongino, 47, of Melville. Along with being charged with a DWI (a misdemeanor), the report stated Bongino took an “unsafe” U-turn on Route 13, traveled with no tail lights on and “refused to provide a chemical test of his breath.”

Bongino has been charged with violations of no tail lights, an unsafe U-turn and refusal of a breath screening. He was recently arraigned and released on one’s own recognizance. Bongino is set to appear in the town of Cortlandville court on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 11:30 a.m.

The other stop involved James M. Duchesneau, 25, of Ithaca. The report stated that Duchesneau was originally pulled over by county sheriff’s deputies for a speed violation after going over the 45-mile per hour speed limit on Route 13.

Upon further investigation by sheriff’s deputies, it was determined that Duchesneau would also be charged with a DWI (a misdemeanor), the report states. He has also been charged with speeding in a zone and moving from a lane unsafely (both infractions), and driving with a .08%-or-more blood-alcohol content.

Duchesneau was arrested and released on appearance tickets. He is slated to appear in the town of Cortlandville court on Monday, Nov. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
