The Homer Trojans’ season came to an end after losing 22-48 against Maine-Endwell in the Class B Central Region Championship game on Saturday (November 20th). It was Homer’s only loss of the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, Maine-Endwell had a second quarter breakthrough, scoring five touchdowns against Homer’s one touchdown to pull away with an 8-34 lead at halftime.

“We know things can happen early when an opponent like Maine-Endwell has talented players,” stated Homer Head Coach Gary Podsiedlik. “We cracked first obviously, and it showed. The minute we showed vulnerability, they came at us full steam. They capitalized on our mistakes. In the trenches, we really struggled to hold the line of scrimmage in the second quarter.”

Maine-Endwell then scored two additional touchdowns to extend their lead.

However, the Trojans did not give up until the end and scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to reduce the deficit.

Homer’s points were scored by Hunter Riehlman (1 reception touchdown pass from Jake Calabro), Sam Sorenson (1 rushing touchdown), and Braden Marsh (1 rushing touchdown). Homer was also scored on their only 2-point conversion attempt. Dalton Eldridge scored on two extra point kick attempts.

Maine-Endwell’s points were scored by Michael Mancini (2 rushing touchdowns), Donnie Hamer (2 rushing touchdowns & 1 reception touchdown pass from Michael Mancini), Adian McHugh (1 rushing touchdown), and Dontae Creveling (1 rushing touchdown).

Here is a score breakdown of the game:

The Trojans ended their season with a 9-1 overall record, including a sectional championship.

Maine-Endwell will play in the semi-final round of the New York State Tournament against Western New York Maritime Charter on Saturday (November 27th) at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. The game will kickoff at 3pm.
