Cortland Weather Outlook: Tuesday, December 7

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, December 7, 2021:

It will be another day between weather systems as Monday’s rain maker pulls away and tomorrow’s snow maker approaches.

There will be a mixture of clouds present that will make sunshine hard to come by. Early on, lake effect clouds off Lake Ontario will be scattered about the area.

Clouds high in the atmosphere will also quickly build in this morning and become thick. Combined with additional scattered lake effect clouds through the midday and afternoon, this time from Lake Erie, and it will be a mostly cloudy day.

A stray flurry early on this morning cannot be ruled out before the Lake Ontario snows shift far to the north. A few flurries will likewise be possible off Lake Erie later in the day.

Any snow that falls will be insignificant with no accumulation and no travel impacts. Most areas will probably not see any snow fall.

Winds will be from the west-northwest early on but will shift to the west-southwest. Wind speeds will be much lighter than the last 36 hours, coming in at 5-10 mph with top gusts of 20-25 mph.

Temperatures will not rise much today with highs in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees. This evening will see a quick drop to the mid 20s with low 20s for much of the overnight.

A slight rise back to the mid 20s will be possible during the predawn hours as winds turn to the south.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Wednesday: Some light snow. Morning lows in the low to mid 20s. Afternoon highs near 30.
