Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Basketball & Bowling (December 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday's events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated Otselic Valley with a score of 54-28 on Tuesday. 

With this win, the Lions improved to a 2-0 record. 

The Lions were led by Tyler Liddle (15 points & 14 rebounds), Cason Stafford (13 points, 16 rebounds & 5 steals), Canden Stafford (11 points, 4 rebounds & 3 steals), and Kooper Vosburg (8 points & 10 rebounds).

Otselic Valley was led by Braden Davis (17 points, 7 rebounds & 3 steals) and Drew Sibila (5 points, 5 rebounds & 4 steals).

The Lions will look to keep their winning streak going as they take on LaFayette on Monday (December 13th) on the road at 6:30pm.   

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Eagles lost a tough game to Stockbridge Valley on the road Tuesday night. 

The Eagles lost with a score of 45-54, bringing them down to a 1-2 record. 

The Eagles were led by Quentin Burdick (22 points), Nolan Knickerbocker (6 points), and Cameron Nitti (6 points). 

Stockbridge Valley was led by Alex Smith (21 points) and Ethan Smith (18 points). 

McGraw will look to bounce back against DeRuyter on the road this Friday (December 10th). The game is scheduled to tip off at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Brookfield

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost 20-65 against Brookfield. 

This was the Lady Eagles’ first game of the regular season, making them fall to 0-1. 

McGraw was led by Madison Sweeney (6 points, 3 rebounds & 2 assists), Hannah Wilson (4 points, 7 rebounds & 2 assists), and Heather Magee (4 points & 3 rebounds). 

Brookfield was led by Megan Kupris (26 points & 10 rebounds), Lily Elliott (16 points, 5 rebounds & 9 steals), and Sara Brean (14 points, 5 rebounds & 4 assists). 

McGraw’s next game will be played on Monday (December 13th) against Madison on the road. Tip off is scheduled for 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Whitney Point

The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Whitney Point with a score of 26-21 on Tuesday. 

According to Marathon Head Coach Andrew Pierce, it was a hard fought defensive game with both teams struggling to score.

“Once in a while you have games where it (the ball) just won't go in the basket," said Coach Pierce.

The Olympians are now 3-0 on the season. 

Marathon was led by Brooke Tillotson (7 points), Abigail Ensign (5 points), and Bailee Hurlburt (5 points). 

Whitney Point’s top scorers included Jane Austenfeld (11 points), Sarah Somers (6 points), and Kayleigh Livingston (4 points). 

Up next, the Olympians will host Moravia Central on Thursday (December 9th) at 7:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Bowling: Homer vs. Weedsport

The Homer Trojans beat Weedsport on Tuesday

With this win, the Trojans are now 4-0 overall.
