Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Basketball & Ice Hockey (December 10th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Jamesville Dewitt 

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a close game to Jamesville Dewitt at home Friday night with a score of 33-38.

This loss brings Cortland down to a 2-2 record.

The Tigers were led by Kirsten Merritt (10 points), Mallory Turner (10 points), and Kendall Mack (8 points). 

Jamesville Dewitt was led by Aniyah Neal (12 points), Ava Sandroni (10 points), and Victoria Payne (8 points). 

Up next, Cortland will host Chenango Valley on Monday (December 13th) at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Olympians suffered a tough loss against Moravia on the road with a score of 53-97. 

According to Marathon Head Coach Jim Holland, “Marathon fell apart in the third quarter and that was game.” 

With this loss, Marathon is now 1-2 on the season. 

Marathon was led by Conor Holland (23 points), Drew Rozewski (17 points), Braydin Drake (7 points), and Kaiden Cornell (6 points). 

Moravia was led by Aiden Kelly (24 points), Abram Wasileski (24 points), and Joe Baylor (19 points). 

Marathon’s next game will be at home against Southern Cayuga on Wednesday (December 15th) at 7:30pm. 

Cortland Homer Ice Hockey vs. Baldwinsville

The Cortland-Homer Ice Hockey team lost a non-league game against Baldwinsville on Friday with a score of 7-2. 

“We were not focused from the drop of the puck,” said Cortland-Homer Head Coach Matt Caron. “We were just unprepared. We tried different combinations, but we couldn’t get it going on any fronts.”

Cortland-Homer’s next game will be played on Tuesday (December 14th) against Clinton on the road at 7:30pm
