Your Cortland County weather forecast for Saturday, December 11, 2021:

A powerful storm system will pass through the Upper Great Lakes today, bringing warm air, gusty winds, and some rain showers to our area.

The best chances for rain today will be through the mid-morning hours and again during the later afternoon and early evening hours. For the late morning and early afternoon, a lull in the shower activity is expected.

A couple rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out with the showers. Nor can some breaks of sunshine during the midday lull.

Winds increased overnight and will blow at around 15 mph for much of the daytime hours. Top gusts during this time will be near or just above 40 mph.

Temperatures should approach 60 degrees this afternoon, especially if some sun pokes out. A sharp cold front will cross the area this evening, sending temperatures quickly back into the upper 30s.

The strongest winds will come just behind the front as they shift to the southwest. Winds will gust to near or above 45 mph for a couple hours before declining overnight.

A few snow showers will also be possible overnight as temperatures continue to fall through the 30s. Little to no accumulation is expected.

Monday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows around 30. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Tuesday: Sun and some passing clouds. Morning lows around 30. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Wednesday: Increasing clouds and perhaps a late shower. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.
