Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, December 19

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, December 19, 2021:

It will be a cloudy and chilly day in the wake of yesterday’s weather system.

Steady northwest winds will blow throughout the day. Wind speeds for the morning and early afternoon will be just over 10 mph before dropping to just under 10 mph for the latter afternoon. Top gusts will be around 30 mph.

These winds will team up with Lake Ontario to keep clouds thick across the area. If any sun manages to poke out, it probably will not do so until late in the afternoon.

Some light snow showers are also expected from the lake. Accumulations should be limited to under an inch for most areas, though. The snow will be on and off but especially focused on the morning hours.

Temperatures will not change much during the day, holding steady in the mid 20s.

Tonight, winds will drop and turn to a more southerly direction. This should help skies clear, at least until some thin clouds high in the atmosphere move in well after midnight.

Temperatures should be able to easily reach the teens as a result. Mid teens are expected by dawn for most of the county.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Monday: Sun and periods of thin clouds. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Tuesday: Clouds, some sun, and maybe a flurry. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Thursday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the upper 10s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.
