Cortland Weather Outlook: Friday, December 24

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Friday, December 24, 2021:

The daytime hours will be quiet, but another warm front will approach tonight.

Skies will be a mix of clouds and some sun this morning before clouds thicken for the afternoon. The earlier in the morning, the better the chance for some sunshine.

South and southwest winds will blow light today with speeds around or under 5 mph. Late in the afternoon, the wind will become more southeasterly for a time. Speeds will increase to around 10 mph this evening and eventually shift back to the south.

Temperatures will make their way into the low 40s this afternoon. With a little extra sunshine this morning, mid 40s could be within reach, though probably not warmer than 45 degrees.

After sunset, temperatures will drop to the low and mid 30s. A little drizzle or light rain will move in. There is a brief window for a few pockets of freezing rain, mainly over higher elevations.

Temperatures will start to rise by the late evening, reaching or exceeding 35 degrees and remaining there through the night. Spits of drizzle and the occasional rain shower will linger, but most of what falls will be light.
