Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, December 28, 2021:

Another weather system will make its way into the area today, but precipitation will not arrive until late.

Some breaks of sun will poke in and out of the clouds this morning. For the most part though, it will be a cloudy day. Clouds will be thicker in the afternoon as the weather system approaches.

No precipitation is expected during the daytime hours, but snow will start to fall shortly after sunset. A few hours of steady moderate snow are likely during the evening.

Precipitation will become more showery after midnight. Sleet and some freezing rain will take over as the predominant precipitation types.

Most of what falls after midnight will be light, but slick roads could linger into the Wednesday morning commute.

Winds this morning will be from the west and northwest at around 10 mph. Wind speeds will drop under 5 mph by the second half of the afternoon, mainly coming from the north before tuning to the east and northeast during the evening and overnight.

Temperatures will make it into the mid and upper 30s this afternoon. Tonight, temperatures will settle around 30 degrees and should remain at or below freezing through the night.

Friday: Partly cloudy. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs near 40.

Saturday: cloudy with rain, especially late. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.
