Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Wrestling & Basketball (December 30th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Wrestling: Homer vs. Multiple Schools (Windsor Christmas Tournament)

The Homer Trojans participated in the “Windsor Christmas Tournament” over the past two days (December 29th-30th), where they placed 14th out of 36 participating teams. 

Only six wrestlers from Homer entered the tournament. These wrestlers included Talan Hubbard (110), Hunter Lines (118), Lukas Quinn (138), Owen Murphy (172), Zander Johnson (189), and Sam Sorenson (215). 

Both Sam Sorenson (215) and Talan Hubbard (110) placed in the tournament with both winning 1st place in their respective weight classes. 

Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Multiple Schools (Windsor Christmas Tournament)

The Marathon Olympians took part in the “Windsor Christmas Tournament'' over the past two days (December 29th-30th). The Olympians placed 25th out of 36 participating teams.

Seven wrestlers from Marathon participated in the tournament. These wrestlers included Brendan Gumaer (118), Anthony Neville (126), Timothy Morehouse (132), Brittan Keller (138), Ethan Morrison (152), Trevor Hurlbert (172), and Logan Jamison (285). 

Both Logan Jamison (285) and Ethan Morrison (152) were able to place in the tournament. Jamison placed 4th in the 285 lbs weight class and Morrison placed 6th in the 152 lbs weight class. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Marion

The Cincinnatus varsity girls basketball team lost 23-25 in the consolation game of the “Cato-Meridian Holiday Tournament”.

Cincinnatus was led by Carissa Schuyler (14 points) and Emma Finch (4 points). 

Note: Individual stats for Marion were not available at the time this article was written.

Cincinnatus’ next game will be against Canastota on the road this upcoming Tuesday (January 4th) at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. DeRuyter

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a close game to DeRuyter in the final round of the “Cortland Holiday Tournament” with a score of 46-48.
