Cortland Weather Outlook: Saturday, January 1

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Saturday, January 1, 2022:

The New Year will get off to a warm and wet start today as a front sets up over the region.

The chances for rain will be relatively low during the morning and midday hours. A few showers will be scattered about, but much of the time will be dry.

Skies will be mostly cloudy, but a brief glimpse of sun here or there may be possible.

The chances for rain will gradually increase this afternoon. By the early evening hours, the rain should become steady. The steady rain will last through the evening and into the overnight.

For the daytime hours, the front will be to our north. This will give us southerly winds at 5-10 mph, which will help boost afternoon highs into the upper 40s. A few southern parts of the county could approach 50, while the hilltops in the north may stick to the mid 40s.

Winds will turn to the north this evening as the front sags south and temperatures will drop. Aided by the loss of daytime heating and the steady rain, evening temperatures will quickly settle around of just below 40 degrees.

After midnight, temperatures will start to approach the low 30s. Some sleet or snow may mix in and continue into early Sunday.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Sunday: Snow showers, possibly mixing with some rain or sleet early. Breezy with falling temperatures. Morning temperatures in the low 30s. Afternoon temperatures in the low 20s.

Tuesday: Morning sun giving way to increasing clouds. Morning lows in the mid teens. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.
