Cortland Weather Outlook: Monday, January 3

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Monday, January 3, 2022:

High pressure over southeastern Canada will keep our weather quiet today as it deflects low pressure over the Carolinas from moving northward.

Lake effect clouds and some thin clouds on the periphery of that low will be present through the morning hours. A little sun may be possible at times, but for the most part, it will be a cloudy start.

The sky should brighten up this afternoon as the thin clouds depart and the lake clouds diminish.

Partly cloudy to mostly clear skies will continue into the evening and overnight.

Precipitation today will mostly be a non-factor. Only a few stray flurries this morning are possible, but most areas will not see anything fall.

Winds will start the day from the north and will pivot to the northwest this afternoon. Wind speeds will be 5-10 mph this morning and around 10 mph this afternoon. Top gusts will around 25 mph.

Afternoon highs will be cold and will struggle to get to 20 degrees. Low and mid teens are expected this evening, with colder pockets if skies clear completely. Temperatures will not fall much further overnight as winds turn to the southwest.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:
