Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:
Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. DeRuyter
The McGraw Eagles lost a tough game against DeRuyter with a score of 46-62 Wednesday night.
With this loss, the Eagles are now 3-5 overall.
McGraw was led by Quentin Burdick (25 points), Antonio Underwood (6 points), and Nolan Knickerbocker (6 points).
DeRuyter was led by Gavin Richardson (27 points) and Andrew Glisson (17 points).
Up next, McGraw will take on Otselic Valley on the road on Friday (January 7th) at 7pm.
Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Groton
The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Groton (47-43) Wednesday night after a fourth quarter comeback.
“We had 2 players coming back from quarantine (Paige & Baillee Hurlburt) and our only sub (Brook Morsey) was moved up from JV for this game,” said Marathon Head Coach Andrew Pierce.
“Brooke Tillotson took over in the fourth quarter,” added Coach Pierce. “She’s our leader and she did what leaders do.”
With this win, the Olympians now hold a 6-2 overall record.
Marathon was led by Brooke Tillotson (26 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks & 3 steals), Paige Hurlburt (6 points, 7 rebounds & 2 steals), Brook Morsey (4 points, 3 rebounds & 2 steals), Bailee Hurlburt (4 points & 4 rebounds) and Anna Hoyt (5 points, 1 rebound & 1 steal).
Groton was led by Abby Dykman (17 points) and Elish Allen (12 points).
Marathon’s next game will be against Newfield Central at home on Friday (January 7th) at 6pm.
Varsity Wrestling: Homer vs. Marcellus-Onondaga (M-O)
The Homer Trojans defeated Marcellus-Onondaga 37-13 Wednesday night. (M-O)
