Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, January 12

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, January 12, 2022:

With high pressure now to the east, the door has been opened for warmer temperatures and the next weather maker.

For today, though, the high will still be the primary influencer. Some sunshine will filter through the clouds at times, but for the most part, it will probably end up more cloudy than not.

No precipitation will fall during the daytime hours. A few light snow showers will be possible this evening with little to no accumulation.

Despite the clouds, it will be significantly warmer than yesterday. Highs should top out in the mid 30s.

The warm up will be courtesy of south winds during the first part of the day. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Afternoon winds will turn to the west-southwest as the high pressure loses influence. Wind speeds will drop to around 5 mph. Light west and southwest winds will remain through the nighttime hours.

Temperatures after sunset will be slow to drop and should settle into the mid and upper 20s overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Thursday: Cloudy with occasional flurries. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Friday: Sun and clouds. A few flurries. Morning temperatures in the low 20s. Afternoon temperatures around 5 degrees.

Saturday: Sun and thin clouds. Morning lows near -10. Afternoon highs around 5 degrees.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows near -10. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.
