Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:
Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Multiple Schools
The Marathon Olympians competed in the Dan Wickham Classic meet, where they placed 2nd overall out of 15 participating teams this past weekend.
Individual highlights for Marathon:
- 285: Logan Jamison won 1st place
- 189: Julian Spizzirri came in 4th
- 172: Trevor Hurlbert placed 3rd
- 152: Ethan Morrison placed 3rd
- 145: Braydon Homer placed 5th
- 132: Tim Morehouse placed 3rd
- 138: Brit Keller placed 6th
- 126: Anthony Neville placed 5th
- 118: Brendan Gumaer placed 3rd
Varsity Boys Track & Field: Homer vs. Multiple Schools
The Homer boys’ indoor track & field team competed in the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial afternoon meet at Onondaga Community College, where they placed 4th out of 13 schools Saturday afternoon.
Individual highlights:
- Tommy Mahunik won 1st place in the 600 meter run (Time- 1:27.24). His time was a personal best and qualifies him for the Section III State Qualifier Meet.
- Jack Smith won 1st place in the 55 meter hurdles (Time- 8.76). Jack also placed 4th in the long jump event (Result- 17’7.5”) and came in 5th in the triple jump event (Result- 34’11.75”).
- Logan Darling placed 2nd in the weight throw event (Result- 39’6.5”). He also placed 5th in the shot put event (Result- 35’4”). Both of his throws were personal bests.
- Tasker Dennis placed 4th in the shot put event (Result- 35’6”). He also placed 6th in the weight throw event (Result- 34’6.5”).
- Cooper Vandee placed 4th in the 300 meter dash (Time- 40.58).
- Tommy Mahunik (24.7), Cooper Vandee (24.9), Brodrick Butts (26.9), and Andrew Lynch Jr. (25.9) placed 4th in the 4x200 relay (Time- 1:42.35).
- Andrew Lynch Jr. placed 5th in the weight throw event (Result- 35’5.5”).
- Bryce Hoffmann placed 6th in the shot put event (Result- 34’ 6”).
Varsity Girls Track & Field: Homer vs. Multiple Schools
The Homer girls’ indoor track & field team competed in the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial afternoon meet at Onondaga Community College on Saturday. The Lady Trojans placed 6th overall out of 13 participating teams.
Individual highlights:
- Hannah McMasters won 1st place in the shot put event (Result- 29’4.75”).
- Molly McMasters placed 3rd in the weight throw event with a personal best throw (Result- 25’9.75”).
- Mayshelle Hyde came in 4th in the weight throw event (Result- 25’).
- Camdyn Cole (29.5), Jane Gugerty (29.7), Caitlin McCloy (30.3), and Mikayla Smith (30.2) placed 4th in the 4x200 meter relay. Their time of 1:59.78 was their best of the season.
- Alyssa Swayze (74.0), Mikayla Smith (74.8), Maggie Mahunik (77.3), and Caitlin McCloy (72.8) placed 6th in the 4x400 meter relay. Their time of 4:59.07 was their best this season.
- Jane Gugerty and Camdyn Cole tied for 6th place in the pole vault event. Both Gugerty and Cole cleared 6’6”.
Varsity Boys Track & Field: Cortland vs. Multiple Schools
The Cortland boys’ indoor track & field team competed in the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial morning meet at Onondaga Community College, where they placed 8th out of 17 participating schools Saturday afternoon.
Individual highlights:
- Jack Phelan placed 5th in both the 55 meter dash (Time- 6.93) and the long jump event (Result- 18’11.75). He also came in 3rd in the triple jump event (Result- 38’11.50).
- Brady Pennock came in 2nd in the 1,000 meter run (Time- 2:54.30).
- Joe Cataldo placed 6th in the 1,000 meter run (Time- 2:58.62).
- Jared Valentin came in 2nd in the 3,200 meter run (Time- 10:06.18).
Varsity Girls Track & Field: Cortland vs. Multiple Schools
The Cortland girls’ indoor track & field team competed in the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial morning meet at Onondaga Community College on Saturday. The Lady Tigers placed 11th overall out of 17 participating schools.
Individual highlights:
- Lillian Call placed 3rd in the 1,000 meter run (Time- 3:19.07).
- Alexandra Gier placed 6th in the high jump event (Result- 4’06”).

The Marathon boys’ indoor track & field team competed in the Section IV Classic meet at SUNY Cortland on Saturday.
Individual highlights:
- Robert Anderson placed 12th in the 600 meter run (Time- 1:47.05).

The Marathon girls’ indoor track & field team competed in the Section IV Classic meet at SUNY Cortland on Saturday.
Individual highlights:
- Abigail Trabucco came in 2nd place in the 600 meter run (Time- 1:56.36). She also placed 6th in the pole vault event (Result- 6’06”).
- Rylee Thomas placed 7th in the 1,000 meter run (Time- 4:15.55).
