Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, January 19

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, January 19, 2022:

South winds today will give temperatures a boost ahead of a cold front that will move in tonight.

Much of the day will be cloudy though some breaks of sun will be possible here and there. A stray flurry cannot be ruled out either, but the far better chances for precipitation will come after sunset.

That is when the front will sag south, increasing the snow showers. Heavy, persistent snow is not expected, and any accumulations should be limited to under an inch.

The south winds kicked up overnight and will continue to blow at around 10 mph today. Top gusts will be in the higher terrain clocking in around 35 mph, mostly this morning.

Temperatures have already been on the rise and will continue to go up into the afternoon. Look for highs in the upper 30s. Evening temperatures will dip to the low 30s and finally into the upper 20s just before midnight.

A much quicker drop in temperature will come during the overnight, with temperatures well into the teens by Thursday morning.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Thursday: Scattered snow showers. Morning and afternoon temperatures steady in the mid 10s.

Friday: A few morning lake effect flurries. Then possibly some sun. Morning lows around -5. Afternoon highs in the low 10s.

Saturday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows around -10. Afternoon highs near 20.

Sunday: Some lake effect snow showers. Morning lows 0 to +5. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.
