Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Basketball, Volleyball, & Bowling (January 20th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated Otselic Valley 52-36 at home Thursday night. Cincinnatus has been ranked #7 in the state rankings for Class D since January 18th.

“After playing last night, we wanted to make sure that we got off to a good start,” said Cincinnatus head coach Jim Halstrom. “We were able to do that, and we kind of maintained the second quarter. We then got kind of sloppy, but we tried some different things in the second half. I’m happy with the effort.”

The Lions were led by Scott Schuyler (19 points) and Canden Stafford (12 points).

Otselic Valley was led by Braden Davis (17 points) and Matthew Wetterer (10 points).

“Our defense of close outs and our defense of pressure has been good, but we still have some lapses in that. We have to tighten up. Our half court offense is something we need to work on too, because we are still not getting the ball into the paint like we want to”

With this win, the Lions improved their overall record to 9-1. Up next, the Lions will take on Brookfield on the road this upcoming Monday (January 24th) at 7pm.
