Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, February 2

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, February 2, 2022:

A slow moving frontal boundary will creep eastward across the Great Lakes today.

This front will stay far enough to our west to keep at least our daytime hours precipitation free. However, clouds have increased overnight and will be with us throughout the day.

Nothing more than a brief glimpse of sunshine is expected, and even that may be too much to hope for.

Winds will remain steady from the south, though not quite as strong as they were last night. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph with top gusts staying just under 30 mph.

Despite the lack of sunshine, the south winds will help nudge temperatures up even further. Highs today will approach, though mostly end up just shy of 40 degrees.

The evening hours, too, should end up dry, though a spit of rain cannot be totally ruled out. The chances for rain will increase after midnight as temperatures drop.

Some pockets of freezing rain may be possible by Thursday morning, which could make for a few slick spots on the roads. Most of this precipitation will be light though.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Thursday: Light rain turning to periods of snow, possibly with some ice during the transition. Heavy snow late. Temperatures steady in the low 30s.

Friday: Periods of snow, mainly during the morning, and mainly light after heavy snow overnight. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs in the upper 10s.

Saturday: A few early lake flakes. Then, sunny. Morning lows near 5. Afternoon highs in the mid 10s.

Sunday: Sun and a few clouds. Morning lows near 0. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.
