Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Boys & Girls Basketball (February 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Otselic Valley

The McGraw Eagles lost a close game that went to overtime against Otselic Valley with a score of 54-55 Monday night. 

The Eagles were led by Cameron Nitti (13 points), Nolan Knickerbocker (12 points), and Nick Sutton (10 points)

Otselic Valley was led by Braden Davis (29 points) and Matthew Wetterer (14 points). 

With this loss, McGraw has fallen to a 5-9 overall record. 

Up next, McGraw will be playing against Cincinnatus for a Cortland County match-up on Thursday (February 10th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians defeated Southern Cayuga 47-46 on the road Monday night. 

With this win, the Olympians improved their overall record to 4-11. 

The Olympians were led by Conor Holland (20 points), Braeden Morrison (8 points), and Braydin Drake (6 points). 

Southern Cayuga was led by Nathan Thurston (15 points) and Isaac Brozon (11 points).

According to Marathon Head Coach Jim Holland, Marathon won the game “when Drew Rozeswki scored on a put back rebound with 4 seconds left.”

Marathon’s next game will be at home against Moravia this Wednesday (February 9th) at 7:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Lady Olympians beat Southern Cayuga 62-45 at home in order to improve to a 13-4 overall record. 

Marathon has been ranked #5 in the state for Class D since February 1st.  

The Olympians were led by Brooke Tillotson (27 points) and Abby Ensign (25 points). 

Southern Cayuga was led by Charli Bennett (15 points) and Ellie Brozon (14 points). 

Up next, the Lady Olympians will take on Moravia on the road this Wednesday (February 9th) at 7:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Bishop Ludden

The Homer Lady Trojans lost a tough game against Bishop Ludden with a score of 61-81. 

The Lady Trojans were led by Gracie Patriarco (24 points), Sarah Sovocool (16 points), and Catherine Apker (13 points). 

Bishop Ludden was led by Amarah Streiff (40 points) and Elizabeth Gaughan (11 points). 

With this loss, the Lady Trojans have fallen to a 12-3 overall record. 

Up next, Homer will take on Cazenovia on the road this Wednesday (February 9th) at 7pm.
