Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Boys & Girls Basketball (February 8th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Fulton

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost 37-54 against Fulton Tuesday night. 

With this loss, Cortland has fallen to a 9-9 overall record. 

Cortland was led by Max Gambitta (13 points, 8 rebounds, & 2 assists) and Tyler Blake (9 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists & 2 blocks).

Fulton was led by Gavin Doty (28 points) and Sam Cotton (10 points). 

Up next, Cortland will host East Syracuse Minoa this Friday (February 11th) at 6:45pm.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Mater Dei Academy (MDA)

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated Mater Dei Academy (MDA) with a score of 70-39 in order to improve to a 12-1 overall record. 

Cincinnatus has been ranked #7 in the state for Class D since February 8th. 

The Lions were led by Tyler Liddle (22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block & 3 steals), Kooper Vosburg (16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists & 3 steals), and Cason Stafford (13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks & 7 steals). 

MDA was led by Joe Mariani (18 points) and Nick Edwards (5 points). 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be at home this Thursday (February 10th) against McGraw. Tip off is scheduled for 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (APW)

The Homer Trojans lost a close game to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (APW) with a score of 54-61 on the road. 

With this loss, Homer now holds a 5-11 overall record. 

The Trojans were led by Wyatt Wilbur (15 points), Evan Butts (12 points), and Mitchell Earle (10 points). 

APW was led by Wyatt Stanard (18 points), Blake Pugh (16 points), and Tyler Smith (10 points). 

Up next, Homer is scheduled to host Mexico today (February 9th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Otselic Valley

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost 20-34 against Otselic Valley Tuesday night. 

With this loss, McGraw now holds a 2-10 overall record. 

McGraw was led by Hannah Wilson (7 points) and Heather Magee (5 points). 

Otselic Valley was led by Emily Miller (11 points), Tori Foster (9 points), and Gracie Rooker (8 points). 

McGraw’s next game will be on the road against Stockbridge Valley this Thursday (February 10th) at 7pm.

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Fulton

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost 31-50 against Fulton. 

Cortland was led by Kirsten Merritt (7 points), Margaret Starr (6 points), Kendall Mack (6 points), and Claire Turner (6 points). 

Fulton was led by Natalie Frost (16 points) and Kayla McCraith (10 points). 

This loss brings Cortland down to a 12-5 overall record.
