Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Basketball & Ice Hockey (February 9th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Auburn

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost a close game to Auburn with a score of 37-55 at home, bringing them down to a 12-6 record. 

Cortland was led by Margaret Starr (11 points) and Claire Turner (7 points). 

Auburn was led by Leah Middleton (24 points) and Kylie Guarino (12 points). 

Up next, Cortland will take on East Syracuse Minoa on the road this Friday (February 11th) at 6:45pm.

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Cazenovia

The Homer Lady Trojans defeated Cazenovia 49-30 in order to improve to a 13-3 overall record. 

Homer has been ranked #17 in the state for Class B since February 8th.

The Lady Trojans were led by Catherine Apker (21 points), Gracie Patriarco (10 points), and Madison Singleton (8 points). 

Cazenovia was led by Hadley Schug (12 points) and Carleigh Szalach (9 points). 

Homer’s next game is scheduled to be played on the road against Phoenix  tonight (February 10th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost a difficult game to Moravia with a score of 43-48 Wednesday night. 

Marathon has been ranked #8 in the state for Class D since February 8th. 

The Olympians were led by Abby Ensign (16 points) and Brooke Tillotson (12 points). 

Moravia was led by Allison Kehoe (14 points) and Chloe Hanson (10 points). 

According to Marathon Head Coach Andrew Pierce, Brooke Tillotson came out with 5 minutes left in the game due to injury.

With this loss, the Lady Olympians have fallen to a 13-5 overall record. 

Up next, Marathon will host Trumansburg Central on Friday (February 11th) at 7:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Brookfield

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost a tough game to Brookfield with a score of 23-50. 

This loss brings Cincinnatus down to an overall record of 7-12. 

Note: Individual stats of the game were not available at the time this article was written. 

This was Cincinnatus’ last game of the regular season. 

According to the Section III website, there will be a sectional playoff tournament seeding meeting on February 16th. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Trojans beat Mexico 54-28 at home Tuesday night. 

With this win, the Trojans improved their overall record to 6-11. 

The Trojans were led by Jon Barnes (12 points), Max Franco (7 points), and Wyatt Wilbur (7 points).

Up next, the Trojans will take on Skaneateles on the road this Friday (February 11th) at 6:30pm.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Olympians lost 39-66 against a tough Moravia team. 

Marathon was led by Conor Holland (24 points) and Braeden Morrison (8 points). 

Moravia was led by Abram Wasileski (21 points), and Aiden Kelly (10 points).  

With this loss, the Olympians have fallen to a 4-12 record. 

Up next, Marathon is scheduled to play against Trumansburg Central on the road this Friday (February 11th) at 7:30pm.

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. CBA

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles defeated Christian Brothers Academy 5-3 Wednesday night. 

Cortland-Homer has been ranked #3 in the state for division II since February 9th. 

With this win the Golden Eagles improved their overall record to 13-4.

Up next, The Golden Eagles are scheduled to take on Whitesboro for their last game of the regular season. The game was supposed to take place at the Whitestown Ice Rink on Friday (February 11th), but has been postponed until further notice.
