The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Trumansburg 48-24 in order to celebrate a successful senior night.

The two seniors from Marathon that were honored at last night’s game were Brooke Tillotson and Paige Hurlburt.

However, Tillotson (senior captain) was unable to play due to a foot injury.

“It (Tillotson’s injury) is a big loss that can’t be made up with just one person,” said Marathon Head Coach Andrew Pierce. “So we (coaches) talked to the girls who are usually out on the court with her (Tillotson) saying that it’s time for them to step up and show what they’re made of.”

“We just needed them to be confident in each other, and tonight they did that,” added Coach Pierce. “In the first quarter, they came out and scored 20 points, moved the ball well, defense was effective, they looked for each other, and they were having fun. So that’s a good win for us.”

The Lady Olympians ended the first half with a 25-11 lead.

They were then able extend their lead to ultimately win the game.

The Olympians were led by Abby Ensign (17 points), Addison Oram (12 points), Bailee Hurlburt (9 points), and Paige Hurlburt (5 points).

Trumansburg was led by Taylor Bennion (7 points), Elle Mount (6 points), and Faith Flood (6 points).

Here is a quarter by quarter breakdown of last night’s game:

According to Coach Pierce, this was a special night for Paige Hurlburt after not playing for two years.

“She's (Paige Hurlburt) done a phenomenal job boxing out, rebounding, getting the scrappy points, getting the backdoor cut layups, and making steals once in a while,” added coach Pierce. “She’s vital to our success.”

Even though Tillotson was unable to play, she got an ovation from the crowd and was recognized for her all-time leading scoring record

At the game, Tillotson also took the opportunity to commit to the SUNY Cortland Women’s Basketball program.

With this win, Marathon improved their overall record to 14-5. The Lady Olympians have also been ranked #8 in the state for Class D since February 8th.

Up next, Lady Olympians are scheduled to host Thomas A Edison on Thursday (February 17th) at 6pm.
