Update: Cortland County Varsity Basketball & Ice Hockey Teams to Play in Sectional Playoffs

The varsity basketball and ice hockey regular season recently ended, and many Cortland County teams made it into their sectional tournaments.

Cortland Purple Tigers

Boys Basketball

The Cortland varsity boys basketball team will be the #7 seed in the Section III Class A Sectional Tournament. They ended the regular season with an 11-9 record.

The Tigers will host #9 seed Syracuse Academy of Science to play the first round of the tournament on Friday (February 18th). The game will start at 7pm.

Girls Basketball

The Cortland varsity girls basketball team are ranked #6 in the Section III Class A Sectional Tournament, after ending the regular season with a 13-7 record. 

The Lady Tigers are now scheduled to host the first round of the tournament against Central Square on Friday (February 18th) at 5pm.

Homer Trojans

Boys Basketball

The Homer boys basketball team will be the #17 seed in the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament, after ending their regular season with a 7-12 record. 

The Trojans will play the first round of the tournament on the road against Solvay (#16 seed) on Thursday (February 17th) at 6pm.

Girls Basketball

The Homer varsity girls basketball team will be the #5 seed in the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament, after finishing their regular season with a 16-4 record. Homer is also currently ranked #17 in the state for Class B. 

The Lady Trojans are now scheduled to host the winner between Bishop Grimes (#12 seed) and Syracuse Academy of Science (#21 seed). Homer’s game is bound to take place at Homer High School on Saturday (February 19th) at 5pm.

Cincinnatus Lions

Boys Basketball

The Cincinnatus boys basketball team are ranked #3 in the Section III Class D Sectional Tournament. The Lions ended their regular season with a 15-1 record, and are also currently ranked #7 in New York State for Class D. 

The Lions are scheduled to have a first round bye, and will then host the winner between Mater Dei Academy (#14 seed) and Brookfield (#19 seed) on Saturday (February 19th) at 6pm.

McGraw Eagles 

Boys Basketball

The McGraw boys basketball team will enter the Section III Class D Sectional Tournament as the #17 rank, after finishing the regular season with a 5-12 record. 

The Eagles will play the first round of the tournament on the road against LaFargeville (#16 seed) on Thursday (February 17th) at 7pm.

Marathon Olympians

Boys Basketball 

The Marathon Olympians are ranked #11 in the Section IV Class D Sectional Tournament after ending their regular season with a 5-14 overall record. 

The Olympians are scheduled to play the first round of the tournament against Jefferson-Stamford (#6 seed) on the road this upcoming Wednesday (February 23rd) at 6pm.  

Girls Basketball 

The Marathon Lady Olympians are entering the Section IV Class D Sectional Tournament with the #1 seed. They are also currently ranked #14 in New York State for Class D. 

The Lady Olympians currently hold a 14-5 record, and will be playing their last game of the regular season at home on Thursday (February 17th) at 6pm. 

With Marathon earning a first round bye, they will host their quarter final game against the winner between Stamford-Jefferson (#8 seed) and Cherry Valley-Springfield (#9 seed). 

Marathon’s quarter final game is scheduled to take place on Friday (February 25th) at Marathon High School. Tip off is at 6pm. 

Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles

Cortland-Homer Ice Hockey

The Cortland-Homer varsity ice hockey team are ranked #2 in the Section III Division II Sectional Tournament. They ended their regular season with a 15-4 record. 

The Golden Eagles have also been ranked #3 in the state for Division II since February 9th. 

Being ranked 2nd in the tournament, the Golden Eagles have a first and second round bye and will head straight into the semifinal stage of the tournament. 

Cortland-Homer is scheduled to host the semi-final round of the sectional tournament on Thursday (February 24th) at 7pm.
