Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Thomas A Edison

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost a tough game against Thomas A Edison (a Class C school ranked #5 in their section) with a score of 46-55.

Marathon senior captain Brooke Tillotson, as she is still recovering from a foot injury.

The Lady Olympians were led by Abby Ensign (28 points), Anna Hoyt (5 points), Paige Hurlburt (4 points), and Bailee Hurlburt (4 points).

Thomas A Edison was led by Payton Littlefield (24 points) and Harper Hoffmann (13 points).

With this loss, the Lady Olympians ended their regular season with a 14-6 overall record.

“It was a tough match up,” said Abby Ensign. “We definitely stayed in it. It’s tough, but we tried our best.”

“We came in with no expectations other than getting the girls ready on the court, and getting ready for sectionals,” said Marathon Head Coach Andrew Pierce. “Obviously we were still without Brooke (Tillotson). We wanted to get everybody on the court the best we could. We brought up some JV players, and got most of them in. But the expectations were to play well, play without Brooke, and play well as a team; and they did that.”

Marathon will now get ready for the Section IV Class D Sectional Tournament, where they are seeded at #1. They will be playing the quarter-final round against the winner between Stamford-Jefferson (#8 seed) and Cherry Valley-Springfield (#9 seed).

Marathon’s quarter-final game will be played at Marathon High School on Friday (February 25th) at 6pm.
