Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, February 24

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, February 24, 2022:

Today will be the proverbial calm before the next winter weather maker moves in overnight tonight and early Friday.

Skies will be mixed today but will tend to be sunnier in the afternoon than this morning. No precipitation is expected during the daytime hours.

Clouds will rapidly increase again this evening as low pressure moves through the Ohio River Valley. Precipitation should break out sometime around midnight, at least starting as snow.

Sleet and freezing rain will make a run at the area and could mix in at times through the overnight. By sunrise Friday morning, several inches of snow and sleet are likely with more to come.

Winds will be out of the north much of the day with gentle speeds around 5 mph. The wind will shift to the northeast as the low pressure system approaches early this evening. 

By the overnight, winds will have swung around to the southeast with speeds increasing slightly into the 5-10 mph range.

Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees today. Evening temperatures will take a quick drop to around 20, but then temperatures will creep back upwards into the mid 20s.

Friday: Morning snow and sleet tapering to a few afternoon flurries. Morning temperatures rise to near 30. Afternoon temperatures in the mid 20s.

Saturday: Maybe a morning flurry. Becoming sunny. Morning lows around 10. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy. A few midday snow showers. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Monday: Sunny. Morning lows around 0. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.
