Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, March 8, 2022:

A small area of high pressure will build into the area later today.

Out ahead of this high, and behind the low that moved through yesterday, northwest winds will be in place through the morning.

Wind speeds will be 10-15 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph. These winds will produce some limited lake effect snow.

The northern parts of the county have the best chance of seeing some snow accumulation, but no more than an inch or perhaps two is expected.

For most areas, there will just be some brief snow showers with little to no accumulation.

The lake snows will diminish by the afternoon as winds over Lake Ontario turn westerly. High pressure will move overhead late in the day, causing our winds to go calm.

Some sun will be possible before the day is over with clear skies persisting into the early evening. New clouds will then spread north through the evening and into the overnight.

With the northwest winds, temperatures will not be nearly as warm as the last couple days. Look for highs around or just under 35 degrees. Temperatures tonight will drop into the mid 20s with a few pockets of low 20s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Wednesday: Cloudy. Maybe some late rain or snow showers. Morning lows in the low and mid 20s. Afternoon highs near 40.

Thursday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Friday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.

Saturday: Early rain turning to snow. Windy. Early morning temperatures near 50, but afternoon temperatures in the 20s.
