Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, March 17, 2022:

A small, weak area of low pressure will develop off the coast of New Jersey today and will be just large enough to spread some clouds into our area.

The clouds will be most plentiful from the mid morning to the early afternoon. It may not be completely overcast all the time, but it will be more cloudy than not.

Rain showers are expected to stay to the southeast, leaving the area dry. If the low jogs a bit further north and west, clouds may stick around longer and a shower may sneak into the area.

On the flip side, if the low is further out to sea, the cloud cover would be more limited and sunshine would have a bigger role.

All of this has the temperature forecast a bit less certain than usual. Being on the edge of the clouds, warm air will not be far away and could easily move in if additional sunshine works out.

This afternoon, it is safe to expect highs at least in the mid 50s, but it will probably end up close to or even above 60 degrees.

Skies will be mostly clear tonight, though some patchy fog cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will drop to the low 40s this evening and the upper 30s overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: Morning sun. Then, increasing clouds. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Saturday: Periods of rain showers. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.

Sunday: Early rain showers. Maybe some late sun. Morning temperatures in the mid 40s. Afternoon temperatures near 40.

Monday: Lots of sunshine. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.
