Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, March 23, 2022:

Low pressure will push a warm front toward the region today, resulting in periods of rain.

The most likely dry time today will be through the morning hours. Dry air lingering behind the high pressure system from the first part of the week will make it difficult for the precipitation to move in.

Through the afternoon, the rain will move in. On and off showers are likely, and a few brief downpours will also be possible. A rumble of thunder cannot be totally ruled out.

Winds will be from the east this morning but will gradually turn to the southeast and increase. By the late afternoon, wind speeds will be 10-15 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Afternoon highs will struggle into the low 40s and evening temperatures will drop to the mid and upper 30s. If temperatures drop a little further in some isolated cold pockets, areas of freezing rain could develop. For the most part though, precipitation should stay plain rain.

The precipitation will continue Wednesday evening and will become steadier and more widespread. This will persist through the overnight before beginning to taper off by early Thursday morning.

Blustery winds will persist through the night as well with gusts of 30-40 mph. Overnight temperatures gradually increase a few degrees, ending up in the upper 30s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Thursday: Scattered rain showers, mostly in the morning. Some afternoon sun. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs near 60.

Friday: On and off rain showers. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Saturday: Rain showers and some higher elevation snow. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Sunday: Snow showers. Breezy. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.
