Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians faced Southern Cayuga for the third time in a row this week. They lost 1-12 on Friday. Marathon now has a 1-2 record.

The Olympians were led by Tristian Byron (1 hit), Jacob Byron (1 hit), and Braydin Drake (1 RBI).

Southern Cayuga was led by Isaac Brozon (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Parker Cullen (1 hit & 1 RBI), and Tony Figeuora (2 hits).

Marathon pitchers Braydin Drake, Austin Poth, Jacob Byron, and Ian Gacek combined to throw a total of 8 strikeouts. Parker Cullen threw 9 strikeouts for Southern Cayuga.

“Walks and errors really hurt us today,” said Marathon head coach Bryan Hoyt. “We just couldn’t throw strikes in the 3rd inning. Giving up 6 walks in one inning is not the recipe for success. The field conditions were less than optimal, but both teams had to deal with it and they did a better job with that. Credit to Parker Cullen (Southern Cayuga) on a great game. He threw a complete game, with 9 K’s (strikeouts). They made the plays in the field too. We were making some good contact and they made the plays.”

Marathon’s next game will be a double header against Union Springs on the road this upcoming Monday (April 11th). The games will be played at Wells College at 10am and 1pm.
