A Harford man was arrested during the early morning hours of Tuesday due to multiple outstanding warrants against him, according to a City of Cortland Police report.

The report states that just after midnight, city patrol officers stopped a vehicle in the Taco Bell parking lot on River Street. City police noticed that Dillin R. Wilcox, 29 of Harford, was driving the vehicle.

Wilcox was wanted on charges of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property by city police, the release notes, and seventh-degree criminal possession of controlled substance by the New York State Police (NYSP).

“(City Police) recognized Wilcox on site,” city detective lieutenant Dan Edwards said Wednesday afternoon.

According to an email from NYSP trooper and public information officer Aga Dembinska, state police had a warrant out against Wilcox through the town of Virgil court after he “failed to appear in court for a previous arrest and appearance ticket.”

The report states that a city patrol officer “approached the vehicle” to speak with Wilcox, advising the Harford resident to “step out of the vehicle” to be arrested.

Wilcox proceeded to lock the doors of his vehicle and “sped off through the grass area around the several businesses,” the report states. This led to city police on a pursuit of Wilcox.

The report states that the pursuit ended on Blodgett Mills Road, just outside of the city, after a Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputy “successfully deployed stop sticks.” The stop sticks flattened two of Wilcox’s tires, the report continues.

Wilcox then ran from his vehicle and was “located trying to hide in a ditch” shortly thereafter, the report notes. City police were assisted by the county sheriff’s department and NYSP during Wilcox’s arrest.

Wilcox has been charged with resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and reckless driving (all misdemeanors); failure to signal, failure to stop at a stop sign, moved from lane unsafely, two speed violations (exceeding 55 miles-per-hour and speed in zone), driving a motor vehicle on or across a sidewalk, avoiding traffic light, unlicensed operator, unregistered motor vehicle and inadequate headlights (all violations).

Wilcox has been arraigned and is currently being held at the Cortland County Jail. He awaits court appearances in the City and Virgil courts at dates yet to be determined.
