Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:
Varsity Baseball: Cortland vs. Auburn
The Cortland Purple Tigers lost their first game of the season against Auburn with a score of 2-4. This loss brings Cortland down to an 11-1 record.
During the game, Cortland was led by Tyler Blake (1 run & 1 hit), Caden Congdon (1 run, 2 hits & 5 strikeouts thrown), Kooper Knabe (1 RBI), Caden Albright (1 hit), Scott Hourigan (1 hit & 1 RBI), Christopher Yang (1 RBI), and Luke Rogoff (2 strikeouts thrown).
Auburn was led by Owen Birchard (1 hit), Kevin Dolan (1 run & 2 hits), Cooper Polcovich (3 hits, 2 RBI’s & 7 strikeouts thrown), Lucas West (1 run & 2 hits), Caden Becker (1 hit), and Jayden DeAngelis (2 runs & 3 hits).
Up next, Cortland will take on Auburn again. However, this time they will play them on the road today (May 3rd) at 6:30pm.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Homer vs. Westhill
The Homer Lady Trojans fell to a 7-2 record after losing to Westhill with a final score of 9-13.
Homer was led by Camryn Calabro (3 goals & 3 assists), Kloey Roos (3 goals), Maria Partis (2 goals), Gracie Patriarco (1 goal & 1 assist), Mallory Douglass (1 assist), and Sarah Sovocool (16 saves).
Westhill was led by Isabella Sampo (3 assists), Kara Rosenberger (2 goals), Rosemary Mahoney (3 goals & 1 assist), Karly Dillabough (1 goal), Emma DeSanto (1 goal), Adelaide Lowery (1 goal), Grace Winkler (4 goals & 2 assists), and Francesca Argentieri (6 saves).
Homer’s next game will be played at home against Mexico tonight (April 3rd) at 7pm.
Varsity Boys Golf: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley
The McGraw Golden Eagles lost against Stockbridge Valley Monday afternoon with a team score of 285-272. (Reminder: Lowest score in golf wins).
