Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, May 3, 2022:

An incoming weather system will keep skies cloudy today with increasing chances for rain late.

If there is any sunshine to be found today, it will be in brief glimpses early this morning. These should be few and far between, though, with generally cloudy skies throughout the day.

The morning and midday hours will remain dry, but showers will start to move towards the region this afternoon. The best chance for rain during the day will come after 3 PM.

The rain that falls this afternoon should be light and relatively brief and could even hold off until near sunset.

Rain will become more common this evening and overnight. On and off periods of rain are likely and a few rumbles of thunder this evening cannot be ruled out. Some briefly heavier rain will be possible with any thunderstorms.

Persistent south and southeast winds will blow today. During the daytime hours, wind speeds will be under 10 mph. After sunset, the wind will increase to 10-15 mph with gusts over 30 mph possible, especially over higher elevations.

The south winds will push temperatures up despite the cloud cover. Look for afternoon highs in the mid 60s and evening temperatures in the low to mid 50s.

Rain showers and blustery winds will persist through the overnight with temperatures ending up just below 50 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Wednesday: Scatted showers. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Thursday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.
